Wanting to take advantage of my last opportunity for a float in the Dead Sea, I got up at dawn and made my way down to the beach. As I lay there so relaxed, gazing up at the beautiful, blue, cloudless sky, the hymn, ‘To God be the Glory’ began to flow from my heart. I so enjoyed the experience of being in that beautiful Sea.
Soon we were on our way to see one of the most spectacular sites in Israel – the 1,500 ft. Mountaintop Fortress of Masada. Built by King Herod, Masada is famous for being the last stronghold of the Jewish rebellion against the Romans.
It was surreal – a 1st century Synagogue and King Herod’s Bathhouse at this elevation.
We went up and down by cable car, although we did notice a trail below us as we were ascending.
We then continued along the shores of the Dead Sea, for a look on the oasis of Ein Gedi, where David hid in a cave when running from Saul. I Samuel 23
We also spotted a few animals that we are not familiar with, in this area - Ibex (like a miniature reindeer) and Hyrax mentioned in Lev. 11.
Once we arrived on the outskirts of Jerusalem, we stopped to take lots of pictures.
Our 1st stop in the city was at the Holocaust Museum, "Yad Vashem." We could have spent the whole day in there since there was so much to explore. However, we were thankful for at least a bird’s eye view.
In the evening we walked down town Jerusalem to have a peek. On the way back we stopped in at the King David Hotel for a few minutes – just to say we have been there! We didn’t even dare ask the price of a cup of coffee!!
