Week Nine

Olavur's Boss, who is a medical doctor involved in research, offered to share a Power Point of some of his recent findings with Scott (who is also a medical doctor).

 

I bet you could never guess what us ladies did while the men were in class?  Yep, we went downtown and had fun - only window shopping, of course!!!  When we caught the men enjoying sushi, we felt justified in going for a super-duper Chai Latte.  No trip to the Faroes would be complete without one of those!!

After meeting at the Nordic House, beside a miniature 'Stonehenge', Jokladals took us to the National Art Museum.  It was especially enjoyable seeing some of the fantastic pieces of Asa's dad's work, and reading about his work being known around the world.

Then in the evening as if they hadn't spoiled us enough already, the Jokladals treated all of us to a fish buffet.  All of the dishes were scrumptious, but in my opinion the small Faroese lobsters were at the top of the list.  If only we had brought along our spare stomachs, we could have stayed a couple more hours!!

We just had one more day with Scott and Cindy and our cousins saw that it was very enjoyable.  Early in the morning we met K.M. by his boat and off we went for a fun excursion - including catching fish for dinner that night, visiting his mother's home village and a closer look at steep cliffs.

 

After the guys caught enough pollock for our supper, we went on to the village where K.M.'s mother grew up.  First we stopped at the Rocking Stones and could literally see the chain moving.  

After going to the village grocery store for a few things for lunch, we made our way to K.M.'s mother's childhood home.  While the coffee was brewing, we quickly set the table and then enjoyed another typical Faroese lunch.

 
  

After cruising along many more exciting cliffs and caves on the journey home, Ragnar took the helm while K.M. skillfully cleaned the fish, making it easier for Ragnar to make it into a tasty meal later that evening.

 

Around 10:00 we went to K.M. and Jonelisa's cozy home for coffee and one of Jonelisa's specialties while sharing stories and experiences of life in the Faroes and the Philippines.

The following morning found us at the airport once again.  So happy to be there a week earlier - so sad to be there then.  Good byes are never easy.  Yet we were so very thankful for our week together with Scott and Cindy in the Faroes.  And we loved being tourists in our own country!!

We are just wondering if there are any other volunteers to visit the Faroes?  We need a good excuse to see the rest of the country!!!!!

On the way back to Klaksvik we stopped in at the summer camp and joined them for breakfast.  What a lovely surprise to see Sunva there and meet her sweet young children.  Sunva worked in our office with us in Manila for a few months several years ago.  I don't think our paths have crossed for at least 10 years.  So after enjoying a quick catch up, we made plans to get together the next time we are in the Faroes.

 
 
Just a couple of days to have coffee with a few friends, try and get some deep cleaning done for Elly and Eivind, meet our new little great nephew, Noa and begin the journey back to North Cotes with lots of great memories!!
