Faroese Lessons

The Faroese fun began in May, when Ragnar started teaching his mother tongue to 4 of the students here. They had been studying Phonetics, and here was an opportunity to phonetically write down a foreign language. Listening to and maybe trying to decipher various Faroese sounds while Ragnar is showing them photos from his home town.

Showing them a model of a typical Faroese boat.
Lots of vocabulary!!
Then in June we went out the tents, were they were living for 5 weeks, and had 2 hour sessions 5 days a week. Ragnar was in his glory, helping people with language.

What did you say?
Please say it again.
One more time!
What do you think he is saying?
They were great students - lots of fun, interested and caught on quickly.
Ragnar has his birthday while we were there and they surprised us with a birthday cake and homemade card. We even sang to him in Faroese.
Reading the card.
After the 5 weeks were over, they all came to visit us one night with a gift for Ragnar.
One of the language lessons was a demonstration of filleting fish.
The knife he was using was quite dull, so they brought out several more for him to try. None of them did the job right, so can you guess what his gift was?
You got it - a special knife for filleting.
Next year, he should be able to do a better job!!
Enjoying cake that they brought with them - our final time of Faroese fun together.
