3X3 - Part Three

1 - BIRTHDAY PARTY DURING PIANO LESSONS
When Denis first asked us if they could host his birthday party at our house it sounded like fun, but it was my day for piano lessons which go until 8:00. I thought it might be disturbing for my students to have a houseful as their audience. So as long as the weather cooperated and they could party outside, that should work out fine. It did end up being a lovely day and plans went ahead.This was the last piano lesson for 4 of my students as they would soon be moving into Mission Simulation.

3 kids and their dad who have been faithfully practicing the last 2 years have all made good progress.

I don't have pictures of all of them, but here is Natalia. Since her lesson falls in the last time slot, we had time for some chit chat at the end of each lesson and I have really enjoyed getting to know her.So while my students were tickling the ivories, Denis and his friends were barbecuing and enjoying the yummy hamburgers in our back yard and I was able to join the party later on.

All of his classmates were invited to join in for dessert. As the evening went on we built a fire and enjoyed the evening together until after midnight.

That was a good deal for us - one we'll take any day - someone making all the arrangements, coming over with all the food and leaving our place spotless!!

2 - SUPPER IN MISSION SIMULATION

For the 5 weeks that the Mission Students are in Mission Simulation, Ragnar is going out each morning to the place where they have set up camp, to teach 2 German couples Faroese. They have learned the phonetics and other language learning skills in the classroom and now is their opportunity to put into practice what they have learned.

Other languages the students are learning are Spanish, Dutch, Palaka and Norwegian.

We have been invited to both of their homey tents for supper. They have fixed them up really cute and did a great job of preparing a yummy meal in their new little abodes.

The first evening Willi and Irmi's kids did their job well of keeping us entertained. 3 year old Sarima was telling us lots of words in Faroese. Her little ears are working well while her parents practice what they are learning each day.It was Elia's turn to entertain us the next night while we enjoyed our outdoor meal with Benny and Kristina. Both of these young ladies proved that you don't need lots of modern equipment to produce a lovely meal.

3 - YEARLY CONFERENCE

Our yearly Residential Conference takes place each year towards the end of June. Everyone on campus pulls together to make sure the week-end goes smoothly. Ragnar's role starts earlier in the year since he is on the Conference Committee.

We are also thankful for other small ways we can be involved, such as having guests stay with us, helping prepare breakfast for 250 guests, setting up and manning the 'NEXT STEP' table, and sharing with lots of people about the Associate Program which gives us opportunities to interact with the many guests on campus.
