70th Wedding Anniversary

Happy 70th Wedding Anniversary Elly and Eivind Niclasen!!!!!

We are soooooo happy that we were able to be with Ragnar's parents for their 'Iron Wedding'.  Wow!!  70 years since they said their vows to each other and began their incredible journey together.

It was a gorgeous day - clear blue skies and bright sunshine.  Friends and family popped in and out throughout the day to congratulate them and share a cup of coffee.

The phone rang all day long.  Many beautiful bouquets of flowers were delivered, along with other gifts and numerous cards.

Walking into the Hotel.  

Soon it was time for the big celebration at the Hotel.  Around 40 relatives gathered together to show Elly and Eivind how happy they were for them.

As guests came in, they immediately walked over to Elly and Eivind to congratulate them on their marvelous accomplishment.    

The meal, as usual at Faroese celebrations, was 'out of this world.'  We began with a shrimp cocktail, followed by delicious roast beef,  gravy, potatoes done in 3 different ways and a variety of veggies.  After 1/2 break, it was all served again.

A special booklet was created with pictures and several songs for us all to sing together in-between the yummy courses.

A group of singers, came to show their congratulations by blending together in perfect harmony.

A few speeches were given, including Claire (granddaughter-in-law), Ragnar and Olavur (2 sons) and ending with one by the 'groom' to his bride of 70 years.  

It was so sweet to hear him tell her how much he loved her, thanking her for being such a sweet, wonderful wife who had stood with him through thick and thin.  

Sealed with a kiss.

More signing and then desserts - ice cream cake covered in marzipan, wedding cake, truffle and dishes with plates of cookies scattered throughout the tables.

3 1/2 hr. later the immediate family gathered at Karolina's house for more time together with their parents, grandparents and great grandparents.

It was a FANTASTIC day.  We feel more than blessed to have been part of it.  I wonder how many people experience the joy of celebrating their parents 70th Wedding Anniversary?!?!?
